Netflix Heads to Castle Rock for 'Harvey's Dream'

Stephen King Novella-Inspired Film Finds New Life on Streaming Service

After initially flying under the radar, Netflix's adaptation of "Harvey's Dream" is gaining traction among fans of Stephen King and psychological thrillers.

Based on King's 2020 novella of the same name, "Harvey's Dream" tells the story of a young boy named Harvey (Jaeden Martell) who befriends an elderly billionaire (Donald Sutherland). The unlikely pair bond over books and their first iPhones, but their friendship takes a sinister turn when Harvey discovers a dark secret about his companion.

The film, directed by Christopher Cantwell and Chris Ford, premiered on Netflix in late 2022 and has since garnered critical acclaim for its atmospheric tension, superb performances, and thought-provoking themes. Sutherland delivers a particularly nuanced portrayal of a complex and troubled character, while Martell's youthful innocence adds depth to the disturbing events that unfold.

Despite its initial release going somewhat unnoticed, "Harvey's Dream" is now finding an appreciative audience on Netflix. Its gripping narrative, unsettling atmosphere, and exploration of the dark depths of human nature have resonated with viewers, leaving them with a lasting impression and an unquenchable curiosity about the blurred lines between reality and delusion.
