A listeriosis outbreak has been linked to deli meats, resulting in at least two deaths and over two dozen illnesses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a warning, urging consumers to take precautions. Health officials are currently investigating to determine the source of the contamination.

Symptoms of listeriosis can vary depending on the severity of the infection. Mild symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, listeriosis can lead to meningitis, sepsis, or even death. Pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable.

While the CDC has not yet identified the specific source of the outbreak, it advises consumers to avoid eating deli meats that have not been heated to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. This includes deli meats that have been sliced or packaged at a deli counter. Prepackaged deli meats that have been processed to kill Listeria are safe to consume.

The CDC recommends that pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems avoid eating deli meats altogether.
